新荷出水、鱼跃虾跳、樱桃红熟、麦穗泛黄……今日小满，齐鲁大地一派欣欣向荣。

Shandong.

1 气候

“小满”之“满”，满载着初夏的勃勃生机，取谷物饱满和雨水丰满的双重意涵。

小满有三候：一候苦菜秀，二候靡草死，三候麦秋至。此三候的大意是：小满节气中，苦菜已枝叶繁茂；而喜阴的一些枝条细软的草类，在强烈的阳光下开始干枯；此时虽夏，于麦则秋，麦子马上成熟。

Weather

The “man” of “Xiaoman (the Grain Buds)” is filled with the vitality of early summer, with a dual meaning of full grains and abundant rainfall.

The Grain Buds is divided into threephases: in the first phase, bitter herbs thrive; in the second phase, vines are

dying; in the third phase, wheat is about to be harvested. The general meaning of these three phases is: when the Grain Buds comes, bitter herbs have been lush; and some delicate and soft grass and vines that prefer shady and humid environment begin to wither under strong sunlight; although it is summer now,to the gradually maturing wheat, it is the bumper autumn.

2 农事

小满小满，麦粒渐满。冬小麦的麦穗已抽齐，麦粒鼓着腮帮一般，泛出一层透明绿。等到这晶莹的嫩绿变为黄绿，麦子即将成熟。小麦成长的最后阶段灌浆期十分关键。

小麦是小满时节的主角。最爱垄头麦，迎风笑落红。在山东多地，人们便开始品尝新麦粒。青麦粒便有多种吃法：一是搓了生吃，二是将麦穗放到火上烤燎，三是不少地区的乡亲们会做麦仁饭，大火熬，小火煮，到麦粒爆开花，稀软稀软。

Farming

During the Grain Buds, wheat grains are gradually full. The winter wheat has finished earing period, and the grains are being full like chubby cheeks, with a transparent green color. When light green turns yellow green, the wheat is about to ripen.The filling period, the last growth stage of wheat, is crucial.

Wheat is the main character of the Grain Buds. A poem says, “I best love the wheat in the field ahead, in the wind it smiles at fallen blooms red.” In Shandong, people begin to taste new wheat grains. There are various ways to eat green wheat grains:they can be eaten raw and roasted. Many people in different regions will cook

wheat congee over high fire and slow fire until the wheat grains bloom like flowers, making it bland and waxy.

3 习俗

苦菜虽在春日长成，鲜嫩可采，山东多地会在小满节气前后吃苦菜。

在古时，小满正是青黄不接的最后一刻，在粮食不丰的年景，苦菜正好填肚皮，以补充粮食短缺，久之成俗。小满过后，炎夏天即将到来，吃苦菜有迎夏袪病的意思。

Custom

Although bitter herbs had already been fresh and tender in spring, many places in Shandong eat them during

the Grain Buds.

In ancient times, the Grain Buds was the interval between the harvest. In times of scarce food, people ate bitter herbs to fill the stomach and reduce the shortage of food, which had become a custom over time. After the Grain Buds,the hot summer is coming, and eating bitter herbs means to welcome summer and dispel diseases.

4 赏景

Scenery

On May 18th,the cherries in cherry planting base in Tianjiahuayu Village, Laocheng Street,Feicheng City, Tai'an City entered the picking season. Cherries had turned red on branches, presenting a beautiful harvest scenery.
